What about orchestra-only tutoring lessons?
“Orchestra music tutoring” as a lesson focus does not work for the way I teach. The content of the lessons becomes dictated by the orchestra conductor and the student, not by me, so I can’t build skills in the sequential way I prefer. When new skills are demanded by the orchestra music, they often come out of order from my technical sequence, and I must teach-to-the-music by taking shortcuts. I also cannot include such students in my studio events and incentive programs, resulting in a patchwork of different student categories. I can recommend some other local teachers who would be willing to work with students as an orchestra coach only.
Students who want to excel in their school or youth orchestra will find my focus on music reading, solo exercises and pieces will build their necessary skills. We can spend a short time in some lessons on orchestra music – no more than 5 or 10 minutes. (More time can be spent if longer lessons are taken.) This will pay off in the ability to play most orchestra music without any additional coaching by me.
